Ask your child to tell you about writing a response to a question using APE+.  .  We are using this                   organizer to write Level 3 to Level 4 answers when responding to reading questions that ask students to       use information from the text and their own ideas to answer the question.
  APE +  ORGANIZER

Answer

Rephrase the question and give your answer or opinion.

Proof from the text

Give specific and relevant evidence from the text to support your opinion. (two or three pieces of evidence for a level 3 answer)

Extensions

Add your own ideas to show your understanding.

What did you read between the lines?

Give extensions that make connections to the text, your own life and experiences.

Closing Sentence

At the end always provide a concluding statement. A strong answer provides proof and inference.

These are the reasons why.............................

3.  Students should practise the four basic operations....
addition
subtraction
multiplication
division as sharing..... If a van can seat 6 children, how many vans do you need to take 33 children to Safety Village?

Descriptive Writing    06012010_20518_0.png06012010_20518_0.png06012010_20518_0.png
Making a Plan,
Using an Organizer,  PBHE Chart that describes the characteristics of a pet.
   Basically the chart develops the use of adjectives, verbs, adverbs (ly words) and names of places....

Physical           Behaviour          How               Environment
~                    ~                         ~                     ~
~                    ~                         ~                     ~
~                    ~                         ~                     ~

Students use this organizer to describe
       ~what the pet looks like  (physical);
       ~what it does (behaviour);
       ~how it behaves (how) &
      ~environment (where)
Writing a rough draft, referring to the ideas brainstormed as a class, each student developed their own descriptive writing.
Revising and Editing the rough draft: (A huge focus in class)   Chunking of similar ideas together to form a  paragraph;
Including enough detail;   Changing the order of sentences;  Writing longer sentences by using conjunctions; Using resources to further develop descriptive vocabulary, Using capitals and periods correctly.
Writing the Final Draft.....word processing.....

Creative Writing
We have been practising writing paragraphs using the following model.
It encourages students to vary the sentence length and pattern.
Topic of your choice_________________
Sentence 1:        noun, descriptive phrase, predicate (action or non action verb)
Sentence 2:       agreeing pronoun (he, she, it, they, we, you)
Sentence 3:       begins with  When
Sentence 4:       quotation "              "
Sentence 5:       summary sentence, may  be an exclamation
Example - follow the colour code from above
         Seashells, which come in many shapes and sizes, are found in a variety of colours.
They are fun to collect.  When I go to the beach, I usually come home with more shells
for my collection.  “What beautiful shells,” says Mother.  I really enjoy my hobby!
