HOMEWORK POLICY FOR GRADE 6 - homework is a result of a student not completing work throughout classroom instruction - I expect students to be reading at home before they go to sleep -math practise is on an individual basis -if your child needs to rehearse the days work, please help them to review -click onto the websites for extra practise in all subjects
School Supplies for Grade 6 2011/12
- calculator (will use daily and for EQAO)
- pencils (regular yellow ones please with eraser)
- pink or white eraser
- pencil crayons
- hi-light markers are ok
- NO liquid paper
- lots of paper for binders for the year
BINDERS MUST BE 1 OR 2 INCH RING- NO BIG BULKY BINDERS THEY DO NOT FIT IN DESKS AND WILL BE SENT HOME
- indoor running shoes for all gym classes (new wooden floors and only running shoes to be worn)
- students will be required to have a change of gym clothes and deodorant if needed
- KLEENEX for classroom as the school does not provide this
- ziploc baggies/ yogurt cups for holding paint
Weekly Curricula Expectations
Language:
*DEAR reading occurs daily in order to build independence and comprehension
*please have your child read nightly, a selection from your just right book list
*students who read 50 books will receive a prize from the office
Spelling Program - students will receive a list of words from our current studies
-the activities are worked on in class twice a week to build understanding of these words
-a green notebook is sent home and is due the following monday with a spelling test to follow

Our Focus :
Making Connections through self, other texts and the world around us - complete
Biography - including astronauts, inventors complete
Mystery Writing - we will be writing a narrative, non- fiction mystery story involving the setting of a haunted house -complete
Reading Comprehension - we are working in centres to provide experience in grammar, writing sentences fluently, narrative -current
Media Awareness - students were video taped on a PSA announcement involving making good choices - complete
Media - linked into reading comprehension and social studies poster on an International Organization which helps women and children
BOOK REPORT due Dec. 16 complete
Arts and Entertainment - April/May - focus is point of view, opinions that are informed and reasonable - persuasive writing
Hamilton Spectator Reading Unit - January - February - complete

Math:
Math tests happen every second thursday - see my calendar
Students have been informed and asked to take home math texts daily to review work of the day. Hold your child accountable for going over classwork.
