Literature Circles Web Site

designed by: Mr. S. Else Gr.5 teacher Maple Grove PS. 2003

"Literature circles provide a way for students to engage in critical thinking and reflection as they read, discuss, and respond to books. Collaboration is at the heart of this approach. Students reshape and add onto their understanding as they construct meaning with other readers. Finally, literature circles guide students to deeper understanding of what they read through structured discussion and extended written and artistic response."

Purpose:

This web site was created to expand the understanding and ability to work with Literature circles for myself, my teaching peers, my students and their parents. The Literature Circles Web Site is organized as follows:

(links to the pages below are across the top of every page)

A starting point .

This section is a resource for the students in my class. It is hoped to function as guide to: understanding what literature circles mean in our classroom; what the expectations are for them and their peers; a place to post their work; a place to reflect upon their work and their peers work.

This section is a resource for teachers looking to incorporate Literature Circles into their classroom. An overview of what this reading/writing strategy is and how it is used organized and assessed in my class room as well as some resources from others.

This section is reading resource for parents explaining what they can do to help and encourage their child to read. Here I explain what Literature Circles are and why I use them.

There is extensive information on Literature Circles, reading and writing on the web, here I will provide some of my favorites. Here there are links to the resources used to create this web site
