Learner Profile:

BCP students are senior students in Halton who are interested in the opportunity to create a strong community dedicated to developing the knowledge, skills and sense of adventure that will enable them to be effective environmental leaders. Students excel at BCP when they are open to learning experientially, ready to commit to developing their own learning and leadership skills and are excited to try something different from the regular classroom.

Description of Program:

The Bronte Creek Project is a unique, one semester, four-credit environmental leadership program for selected senior high school students, located at a beautiful site next to the Niagara Escarpment. Become part of a close-knit community, learn about environmental issues and challenge yourself on an adventure trip to Algonquin Park or Temagami. The courses you will take in Bronte Creek are:

CGR4M -Grade 12, Environment & Resource Management (University/College)
IDP4U -Grade 12 Interdisciplinary Studies (University)
PAD40 -Grade 12 Healthy Active Living Education, Outdoor Activities (Open)
EPS30 -Grade 11 English, Presentation & Speaking Skills (Open)

Explore the Environment: Learn about environmental issues, leadership theory, ecology, local biodiversity and outdoor camping skills.
Develop Group Skills: Meet new friends, gain confidence in yourself and discover a renewed passion for learning.
Make a difference: Teach Earthkeepers - a dramatic, ecology program that educates elementary students about the systems of life on the planet.
Get Outside: Learn to push your own limits on a 5 day adventure trip.

Exit Pathways:

After completing the program, students would continue their studies at their home school or may be graduating and pursuing environmental studies, teaching, environmental sciences, recreation and leisure at post secondary destinations.

Environmental Specialist High Skills Major Option:
By completing the following courses, as well as spending a semester at BCP you can earn an Environment Specialist High Skills Major
  • Grade 11 Math, Grade 11 English, Grade 12 Math
  • 2 Cooperative education credits exploring environmental careers
