Co-op Students: Get your Co-op Log sheet
Learner Profile:

Registered students who are working in either a paid or volunteer position are eligible to participate in this program.  It is designed to enable students to complete credits through a combination of in-school courses, assignments, and workplace assessments.  Students must be able to work independently in a workplace environment.

Program Description:

Co-operative education allows students to participate in valuable learning experiences that help prepare them for the next stage of their lives, whether in apprenticeship training, college, community living, university or the workplace.

All co-op credits are attached to an in-school subject.  In order for the co-op credit to be granted, the in-school subject must be completed.  A full co-op credit consists of 110 hours of work.  Students provide their employer with an information package and ask for permission to participate in the program.  Students prepare a cover letter, resume, and completed application form and have an interview with the co-op instructor.  Prior to recording hours toward the cooperative education credit, students also complete a pre-placement package. Throughout the course, students complete weekly logs and assignments, along with a final project.  Teachers work with employers to obtain feedback regarding the student’s progress on the job.  Marks are assigned upon the completion of the in-school subject, the required number of hours, the employer’s assessment and the completion of the required assignments, including weekly logs and the final project.

Exit Pathways:

From this program students return to regular high schools, apprenticeship programs, the workplace, or graduation.

Application Process:

Students wishing to be considered for Cooperative Education should consult with the Gary Allan guidance or co-operative education teacher or program/site supervisor in your community.
