Experience, Cooperative Education & Learning

Learner Profile:

Students in the Ex-cel program are 16 years or older and interested in gaining valuable work experience. Students benefit from a full-day work placement and the opportunity of being away from a traditional school environment for a period of time.

Description of Program:

The goal of the Ex-cel program is to have a pro-active intervention for students who need to be out of school and off campus temporarily yet still engaged in meaningful experiences, earning credits and receiving adult support.  Ex-cel is a continuous intake, full day, off-campus co-operative education program.

Ex-cel is a program intended to spark students’ interests, support their needs and ultimately invite them back to the school environment.

How is it different than regular co-op?

·Off campus and usually one-on-one
·Continuous in-take: students can earn up to 4 (or more) credits
·You can be paid provided the employer covers WHIG and contract is clear
·You must be 16 years of age or older
