STUDENT MENTORSHIP AND RE-ENGAGEMENT FOR TRANSITIONS
Learner Profile
Students enrolled in the SMART program are between the ages of 16 and 20 and have learning profiles that would best benefit from a small, inviting and supportive classroom setting in an alternative environment. Students will have experienced various interventions at the home/previous school setting.
Description of Program:
Students would attend the program at scheduled times (times may vary depending on availability at the site location). The program is designed to support students in their learning skills, courses, accommodations, self-advocacy skills and transition planning. The program explores learning strategies, builds program around identified needs, and develops interpersonal and teamwork skills.
SMART students typically are enrolled in “Learning Strategies” and other core area courses at Gary Allan.
Exit Pathways:
Students may transition back to their home school or other GAHS programs.
Application Process:
Administrators or designate to call to initiate the application process. Any of the following documentation will be required:
- GAHS Referral form (see garyallan.ca homepage)
- Credit counseling summary
- Attendance records
- Supporting documentation, if applicable, may include Psychological assessment, medical documentation, IEP…
