SECONDARY TEEN EDUCATION PROGRAM




Learner Profile:
This is an educational program specially designed for young adults seeking to complete OSSD requirements in an alternative setting.  It is designed for students aged 16 –20 who can work independently in a quiet, structured setting.  Students who can demonstrate a commitment to learning by attending regularly, being prepared daily for class, and contributing to a positive learning environment will do well in this caring and mutually respectful environment. This program assists students to achieve academic credits, acquire job search skills, develop personal life skills, work co-operatively with others, and make wise and safe choices for healthy living.step.h7

Description of Program:
Students attend school in the morning or afternoon and receive small group instruction.  Many students work part time while enrolled in this program.  Courses are offered in Grades 10 -12 in Math, English, Business, Science, and Social Sciences at the applied level, as well as the workplace or college level.  Teachers are experienced in dealing with a wide variety of student behaviour, and emphasize goal setting, time management and organizational skills.  Guest speakers from the local community, and student participation in local community events enhance the program.


Exit Pathways:
Students proceed from the S.T.E.P. program either back to a regular high school, apprenticeship programs, the workplace or graduation.
