 English Grade 11 Workplace Students investigate media forms, write explanations, letters and reports. An important focus is to use language clearly, accurately and effectively in a variety of contexts. The course leads to grade 12 workplace English. ENG3E
 English Grade 11 College This course leads to Grade 12 College level English. Students learn to write in a variety of styles with an awareness of their audience. They also strengthen their ability to develop an argument and support it effectively. Themes explored are Crime and Punishment and other social issues. Available in self-reliant or classroom format.  English Grade 11 University This course leads to Grade 12 University English. Students read challenging stores and novels and one Shakespearean play, Macbeth. Writing involves well-developed literary responses and essays. ENG3U
 English Grade 12 Workplace This course focuses on practical skills needed within the world of work and in issues at home. Good basic writing skills are applied to summaries, question responses, charts and a personal essay. ENG4E
 English Grade 12 College This is the course most commonly required for college entrance. Students read and analyze poetry, drama, short stories, novels and essays. Good writing skills are developed with an emphasis on grammar, organization and the solid support of ideas.  ENG4C
 English Grade 12 University Students read complex stories, essays, novels and plays in this University destination course. Emphasis is on extensive, well-supported responses to the literature, mature essay writing and reading skills. ENG4U
Business English Grade 12 Open This course emphasizes practical writing and communication skills needed for effective communication in business and technology. EBT40
English Grade 12 College  This course emphasizes knowledge and skills related to the craft of writing. Students will investigate models of effective writing; use a workshop approach to write a variety of works; and make considered decisions for improving the quality of their writing. They will also complete a creative or analytical independent study project and investigate opportunities for publication and for writing careers. EWC4C
English Grade 12 Open Special criteria must be met to qualify for this course. This course is designed to help students acquire and demonstrate the cross-curricular literacy skills that are evaluated by the Ontario Secondary School Provincial Literacy Test. Students who complete the course successfully will meet the provincial literacy requirement for graduation.  Students will read a variety of writing, including summaries, information paragraphs, opinion pieces and news reports. Students will also maintain and manage a literacy portfolio containing a record of their reading experience and samples of their writing. OLC40

 Math Grade 11 College  This course enables students to broaden their understanding of exponential growth and of important areas of personal finance.  Students will investigate properties of exponential functions and develop skills in manipulating exponential expressions, solve problems and investigate financial applications involving compound interest and annuities. Students will apply mathematics in making informed decisions about transportation, accommodation, and career choices. MBF3C
 Math Grade 11 Workplace  This course enables students to broaden their understanding of mathematics as it is applied in important areas of day-to-day living. Students will solve problems associated with earning money, paying taxes, and making purchases. Students will learn calculations of simple and compound interest in saving, investing, and borrowing. Students will calculate the cost of transportation and travel costs in a variety of situations.  MEL3E
 Math Grade 12 Workplace The course enables students to broaden their understanding of mathematics as it is applied in important are of day-to-day living. Students will use statistics in investigating questions about interest and apply principles of probability on familiar situations. They will also investigate accommodation costs and create household budgets; solve problems involving estimation and measurement: and apply concepts of geometry in the creation of designs. MEL4E
 Math Grade 12 College This course equips students with the mathematical knowledge and skill they will need in many college programs. Students will use statistical methods to analyze problems: solve problems involving the application of principles of geometry and measurement to the design and construction of physical models: solve problems involving trigonometry in triangles: and consolidate their skills in analyzing and interpreting mathematic models. Technical

This course equips students with the mathematical knowledge and skills needed for entry into college technology programs. Students will investigate and apply properties of polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions; solve problems involving inverse proportionality; and explore the properties of reciprocal functions. They will also analyse models of a variety of functions, solve problems involving piecewise-defined functions, solve linear-quadratic systems, and consolidate key manipulation and communication skills.

This course broadens students’ understanding of mathematics as it relates to managing information. Students will apply methods for organizing large amounts of information; apply counting techniques, probability, and statistics in modelling and solving problems; and carry out a culminating project that integrates the expectations of the course and encourages perseverance and independence. Grade 12 UniversityKaren This course extends students’ experience with functions. Students will investigate the properties of polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; develop techniques for combining functions; broaden their understanding of rates of change; and
develop facility in applying these concepts and skills. Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics. This course is intended both for students taking the Calculus and Vectors course as a prerequisite
for a university program and for those wishing to consolidate their understanding of mathematics before proceeding to any one of a variety of university programs.

This course provides students with the science-related knowledge and skills they need to help them make informed decisions in the workplace and in their personal lives. Students will explore a range of topics, including materials and safety; electrical circuits; micro-organisms; the human immune system and defenses against disease; and the impact of humans on the environment.

This course focuses on the processes involved in biological systems.  Students will learn concepts and theories as they conduct investigations in the areas of cellular biology, microbiology, animal anatomy and physiology, plant structure and physiology, and environmental science.  Emphasis will be placed on the practical application of concepts and on the skills needed for further study in various branches of the life sciences and related fields.

Biology Grade 11 University This course furthers students’ understanding of the processes involved in biological systems. Students will study cellular functions, genetic continuity, internal systems and regulation, the diversity of living things, and the anatomy, growth, and functions of plants. The course focuses on the theoretical aspects of the topics under study, and helps students refine skills related to scientific investigation. SBI3U
Biology Grade 12 University This course provides students with the opportunity for in-depth study of the concepts and processes associated with biological systems. Students will study theory and conduct investigations in the areas of metabolic processes, molecular genetics, homeostasis, evolution, and population dynamics. Chemistry Grade 12 College This course introduces students to the concepts that form the basis of modern chemistry. Students will study qualitative analysis, quantitative relationships in chemical reactions, organic chemistry and electrochemistry, and chemistry as it relates to the quality of the environment. Students will employ a variety of laboratory techniques, develop skills in data collection and scientific analysis, and communicate scientific information using appropriate terminology. Chemistry Grade 12 University This course enables students to deepen their understanding of chemistry through the study of organic chemistry, energy changes and rates of reaction, chemical systems and equilibrium, electrochemistry, and atomic and molecular structure. Students will further develop problem-solving and laboratory skills as they investigate chemical processes, at the same time refining their ability to communicate scientific information. Physics Grade 12 College

This course develops students’ understanding of the basic concepts of physics. Students will explore these concepts as they relate to mechanical, electrical, fluid (hydraulic and pneumatic), and communications systems, as well as to the operation of commonly used tools and equipment. They will develop scientific-inquiry skills as they verify accepted laws of physics and solve both assigned problems and those emerging from their investigations. Students will also consider the impact of technological applications of physics on society and the environment.

Physics Grade 12 University This course develops students’ understanding of the basic concepts of physics. Students will study the laws of dynamics and explore different kinds of forces, the quantification and forms of energy (mechanical, sound, light, thermal, and electrical), and the way energy is transformed and transmitted. They will develop scientific-inquiry skills as they verify accepted laws and solve both assigned problems and those emerging from their investigations. Students will also analyse the interrelationships between physics and technology, and consider the impact of technological applications of physics on society and the environment.

Challenge and Change in  Society Grade 12 College/University Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology are the main facets of this course. Current issues in our society: genetic modification, crime and deviant behavior, and may others are examined. Personality development, phobias and neuroses are explored. Cultural features such as demographics, cultural trends and population changes are taught. This is an academically challenging course. HBS4M
World History Grade 12  University This course investigates the major trends in Western civilization and world history from the sixteenth century to the present. Students will learn about the interaction between the emerging West and other regions of the world and about the development of modern social, political and economic systems.
