Introduction to French.  Goal:  to fee comfortable and confident in the Second Language classroom.
Vocabulary:
  • classroom objects
  • calendar words (counting to 30, days of the week)
  • je míappelle, bonjour/aurevoir
  • expressing everyday needs: ìPuis-je aller au toilette?~/boire de líeau?~ª,~ ´~Cíest le temps de nettoyer/laver les mains/changer de classe~ª
  • Unit~:´~Relationships, Rules and Responsibilities~ª
Focus: Relationships.  Students will identify the people with whom they have significant relationships (family, friends, neighbours)
-vocabulary: family words-ìWho lives in my houseî
Unit:  Earth and Space Systems ìDaily and Seasonal Changesî
Focus: Investigate daily and seasonal changes (e.g. night/day, the four seasons)
  • students discuss and record weather daily

Introduction to speaking in front of the class- not to worry, itís just a few words~

Focus: Rules. Learning about rules and why we have them.  Investigating how rules are different in different environments (e.g.school, home, museums), and for different reasons (e.g.safety, enjoyment of others)
Unit:  ìDaily and Seasonal Changesî. Continued.
Focus: assess and explain the effect of daily and seasonal changes on living things, including humans.
  • students continue to discuss and record weather daily, and graph weather results over the month

Focus: Rules vs Responsibilities and gathering data.
  • Students gather data from home and peers to graph and compare
  • Asking ìBig Questionsî-(e.g. Does every student have the same rules at home? ìDo kids have the same responsibilities as adults?)
  • In class workshop ìScientists in the Schoolsî
Unit:   Life Systems (Needs and Characteristics of Living Things)
Focus:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic characteristics and needs of living things
  • Investigate physical characteristics of plants and animals including human five senses

  • Presenting timelines to the class (with assistance)
  • Unit: Earth and Space Systems: Seasonal Changes
Focus:
  • Changes that take place in temperature and light and assess how this affects living things, plants, animals and human beings

  • How would life be different if we had no electicity
  • Experiments with sun energy
  • Design and build a device that uses energy to perform a task (e.g. pin wheel)
