MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

New Year’s Message from the Principal

Welcome to the New Year at Maple Grove P.S.  We trust that you have had a safe and happy holiday!  Thank you again for your donations to our Food Drive in December.  Many families in our community benefited over the holidays from your generosity.

As we venture into 2012, we hope that you will consider sharing in your child’s education by spending time as a volunteer in the school.  A special thank you to all of our parent volunteers who make a difference each and every day.  There are several classrooms, programs and clubs that will greatly benefit from your time and assistance, and we are looking forward to welcoming new parents into our volunteer program.  Mrs. Moore, our Teacher-Librarian, requires volunteers to help students choose and sign out books.  Our Kindergarten classes need volunteers for additional supervision during nutrition breaks – even if you can only volunteer for one break per week or month.  Mrs. Mayers is recruiting parents to read with individual students in grades 1-3 for our All-Star Reading program.  We are also looking for assistance serving Kidssentials lunches on Mondays.

Maple Grove runs several clubs and teams that are a crucial component of a child’s social, emotional and physical development while at school.  Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Mrs. Zelda Middleton, or the school to inquire about a volunteer opportunity that will suit your schedule.  Any time you are able to give is worthwhile and appreciated.

Great news from our Me to We, Free the Children campaign.  We have raised over $6,000 so far to build our school in Sierra Leone!  We just received a letter from Marc Keilburger, one of the founding brothers of Free the Children to thank our students for their generous donations in nearly reaching our goal of $8,500.  We’re almost there Maple Grove!  You’re making a difference in the lives of children without a voice.

Grade 7 Camp Muskoka Excursion Parent Information Evening
On Wednesday, January 11th at 6:30 p.m., the Coordinator from Camp Muskoka will be meeting with grade 7 parents and students to present information on their camp accommodations and meals, facilities, and the educational program for the students.  Parents and students, please bring your questions
and join us in the Gym for this informative evening.
Please remember to encourage your children to walk or ride their bike to school.  Thank you to our parent volunteers for help in making our Maple Grove Kiss ‘n Ride a safe system to use if you need to drive your child.  We have noticed, though, that the traffic flow gets very busy from 8:55 to 9:20 a.m.  After drop-off, we ask that you turn RIGHT only from the school driveway onto Maple Grove Drive.  Our buses are having a difficult time entering the driveway in the morning when cars make left hand turns onto Maple Grove.  Thank you for your support in making our morning entry safe and problem-free.
