Homework Expectations for Music
All of my instrumental students (from recorder to saxaphone) are expected to include home time practice on their instrument. The expectation is that each student will practice their weekly assigned exercises and pieces for 20-30 minutes twice a week (total of 40-60 minutes) it is important to note that breaking up the practicing time is critical to a student's growth on an instrument. Sitting down for 60 minutes of practice is less fruitful than 2 sessions of 20-30 minutes. Throughout the year each student will be required to perform practice tests on homework they have been assigned. Students are always welcome to replay a test throughout the term under
the following conditions: 1- on the day the test was given they were willing to try. 2- they have taken the insturment home since the first attempt and practiced it to the best of their ability. Finally I would like to end with a quote from Faith Ringgold "If one can, anyone can, all you have to do is try." I look forward to teaching your children and hope that they will feel inspired to express themselves through music and art this year. Best wishes for a wonderful
year, Lynne Richards
