Here are some ways that you can help your child at home:

-read to your child every day. It is great to read a story together before bed at night.

-read favourite stories over and over again.  Children like to hear stories more than one time.

-let your child read to you.

-visit the library.  You can check out free books, magazines, and books on tape.

-sing songs and say nursery rhymes together.

-write out grocery lists for food shopping.

-watch favourite television shows.  Your child will be able to hear people speak.

-let your child make cards, lists, bookmarks, and write letters to friends or relatives.

-please let your child do some reading and writing in his/her first language if he/she wants to.  It will help your child to learn English too!
