Spelling Homework
Each week, your child will bring home a new list of words to use to help consolidate spelling patterns. They will work with the same words for two weeks.
Please use the following activities to help your child master their words and internalize spelling patterns.
Spelling Ideas:
30 Second Words
Try to use all of your list words in a 30 second commercial. Be creative- you might use your secret word as the product you are trying to sell!
ABC Order
Write your list words in alphabetical order.
e.g apple banana cherry date eggplant fig grapes
Backward Words (Drawkcab sdrow)
Write your list words sdrawkcab (backwards)
Choo-Choo Words
Writeyourlistwordsasonelongwordwithoutanyspaces.Usea differentcolourforeachword. (Write your list words as one long word without any spaces. Use a different colour for each word).
Consonant Words (Cnsnt Wrds)
Write your list words but omit all of the consonants.
Cross Words
Make a crossword puzzle using your list words. Get a friend to solve it!
Newspaper Words
Try to find all of your list words in the newspaper.
Other Hand Words
Use your opposite hand to write your list words. Can you do it neatly?
Pasta Words
Use alphabet pasta to make your list words.
Picture Words
Draw a picture and label it with your list words.
Pyramid Words
Write your list words but delete one letter each time.
Rainbow Words
Write your list words using 3 different colours.
Ransom Words
Cut out letters from a newspaper or magazine to make your list words.
Record-a-Word
Record yourself reading and spelling your list words.
Reversed Alphabet Words
Write your list words in reversed alphabetical order.
Secret Agent Words
Number the alphabet from 1-26 and convert your words to a number code. CAT = 3 1 20
